Waiting for the town bus. The girls and I LOVE riding the bus! It's free, easy to catch and something just so Crested Butte.

On a side note, I've uploaded many new photos - about 15 - and I'll reveal a few more soon. I'm very far behind and very uninspired right now, but I'm hoping to plow through this frustrating. No pun intended. Plow. Snow. 36'. Yuck.

While this may look beautiful to some, I'm sick of it. Snow. Crested Butte now has 418" of snow. A record. For those counting, that's almost 35' of snow. Thirty five. THIRTY FIVE FEET. Will spring EVER come?

Nope, we're getting 12" more today.

Make that THIRTY SIX FEET.

Sigh.

The snow banks are melting and creating their own stalactites. Their own icicles. Their own teeth. It's a little creepy.

Going through a very uninspired photography time. Honestly, I'm not sure I want to do this project. I mean, I really do, but I'm just sick of the pressure of it. I think it wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't feeling so yucky lately.

Anyway, this is ice. No, not snow, ice surrounds that post. The snow melts and drips down and surrounds the post every year. This year is worse than most. I think it'll melt sometime in 2010.

Shaun Horne is a local plein air painter and will paint in literally almost any weather. As you can see, he's outfitted in a full snow suit to keep warm... He can be found all around Crested Butte almost any day painting his beautiful art.

It still cracks me up how deep the snow is. People have to put their bikes on top of the snow banks to store them since there's no room on the road or in their yards. This house used to have a walkway about 2' taller - and the sides were 2' taller, too! Hanging over the door you see some Red Lady Prayer Flags. These are in support of keeping Red Lady Mountain free of molybdenum mining. More on that another time!

It's not spring here yet. Not even close. I still can't get over how much snow we have left on the ground! It's just amazing compared to last year - or any other year of my life. For a comparison, this is our backyard last year shortly before we finished out deck. yes, that's about 7' of snow still piled up! (More in some places.)

Happy Easter! (After seeing Chris off to Louisville, KY, the girls and I played in the yard. You know, your typical Easter. LOL! )

Every few weeks, the girls and I will wander into the museum and watch the train go around for a while. We'll plug in the quarters and imagine what it was like back in the mining boom of the town. We talk about the new buildings that have been added, which buildings we recognize as still standing (the museum is the building at the bottom of the photo with the green trim, a former gas station) and about the mining history. I want very much for my girls to feel as much a part of this town and its history as possible. And living in the only house that's on the Colorado National Historic Register in the town is pretty darn amazing to me!

Today I brought the girls to their very first movie at a theater ever! Ellie sobbed when she thought that the clover on which the miniscule Whoville spec was sitting was going to get boiled in oil. Sammie laughed like crazy as Horton danced and was just plain silly. We had a wonderful time watching "Horton Hears a Who"!
